HOLLYWOOD—The nominees for the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced on Wednesday, December 9 by actress Anna Faris and actor Anthony Mackie at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

It’s apparent there are indeed some frontrunners this year, in the awards contest. Leading the pack of all nominees in the film arena was the film “Trumbo” starring Bryan Cranston that picked up three nominations including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film will square off against “Beasts of No Nation,” “The Big Short,” “Spotlight” and “Straight Outta Compton.” Dare I say it now that “Compton” could indeed be a dark horse this awards season?

All I can say is if the SAG Award nominations are any indicator, we could have a very interesting awards season where those big-time names so many people expected to garner nominations are left off the list.

Such expected nominations for Will Smith for his work in “Concussion” and Jennifer Lawrence for her work in “Joy” were left off the list. There were just as many surprises on the TV side of things as well. No love for “Empire” or Taraji P. Henson, no love for the ladies of “Mad Men,” what the hell!
