SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, August 22, a dog was released from a pet hospital after suffering injuries due to multiple stabbings. A U.S. Park Police spokesman told the San Francisco News that “prior to the stabbing, they don’t know” what happened, they also “don’t know if it was provoked.”
Lenny, the dog, was stabbed four times on Thursday, August 20, at around 2:30 p.m. in Fort Funston, a part of the Golden Gate National Parks. The stabbing was reported to the U.S. Park Police by a woman who was walking Lenny at the time after seeing the suspect walk his own dog. The dog was a white-faced brindled pit bull.
The two dogs were reportedly in aggressive stances facing one another when the woman walking Lenny asked if the pit bull was neutered. Allegedly the man suddenly began to stab Lenny with a knife, and then left the scene with his white-faced pit bull named Denali.
Lenny suffered many injuries that damaged his internal organs including his spleen and at least one lung. Since his return from the hospital, he is currently in “stable” condition, the spokesman for Park Police states.
Two people have come forward with additional information. As of now, the suspect has been “identified,” the spokesman said. The 33-year-old man has not been arrested and the spokesman also states that “interviews are ongoing” in the investigation as it seems witnesses are giving different accounts of the incident.
