SAN FRANCISCO A fire broke out in the Mission District on the evening of August 14. The fire began in a home on Rondel Place and traveled quickly to the back of the building. The flames then took to the surrounding buildings, including a single-family residence on Valencia Street.

The fire was reported a little after 6 p.m. and firefighters responded to the call.  Within minutes, a second alarm was issued on the blaze when an additional building in the area caught fire.  According to the Twitter page Emergency in SF, 15 minutes after the second alarm was called, major concern over the extensiveness of the fire prompted emergency response units to call for a third alarm.

Over 100 firefighters were called to the scene to help tackle the flames.   At least two firefighters were injured during the incident, but their wounds were non-life threatening and they are expected to make a full recovery. Though initial reports indicted otherwise, no residents were injured. However, the fire displaced countless community members, as they were forced to evacuate their homes. The Red Cross was on-site to assist the people who were affected by the flames. T he damage done to the buildings was extensive; one official sited $1.5 million as a possible figure.

The fire was under control by 6:50 p.m. and officials are still investigating its cause.
