BART Train Strikes And Kills Person

SAN FRANCISCO—A person was killed after jumping in front of a San Francisco BART train on Monday, March 16, halting traffic in and out of the city’s Civic Center Station.

The San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene after receiving a call that a person had been struck by a train at 2:27 p.m.

The person, trapped beneath the train after the collision, was killed.

The station platform was subsequently evacuated, and only a single track was permitted to run through the station.

For the remainder of the afternoon, trains passed through the station. Passengers hoping to get off the train at Civic Center were sent to the next stop as city officials dealt with the situation.

The tracks fully re-opened shortly after 4:30 p.m.

The identity of the victim and the exact cause of death have not yet been revealed to the public.
