SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department is currently investigating a deadly crash that transpired on Friday, June 12. The SFPD reported at approximately 7:36 a.m., officers responded to the Trader Joe’s at California and Hyde Streets on the report of a theft.

Officers arrived on scene and attempted to detain the theft suspect. The suspect resisted officers and fled on foot. Two officers pursued the suspect on foot into the street, where all three were struck by a vehicle. One of the officers was pinned beneath the vehicle.

Firefighters removed the officer from under the vehicle while paramedics rendered aid and transported all three patients to the hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, the initial theft suspect, who was struck by the vehicle, died from his injuries and was declared deceased. Both officers are being treated at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
