HOLLYWOOD—Well after eight seasons, the end is upon us on the hit Showtime series “The Chi.” This series has been up and down over the past few seasons. I thought seasons 4 thru 6 were just dreadful. Why? The viewers got the same recycled thing over and over and over again with the same villain Douda.

You can only have the same villain on a series like this for so long before it becomes stale and tired. So imagine my glee when the series FINALLY decided to take the character out. It was long overdue, and to see him taken out was exhilarating, it was just a problem to see a nobody character like Nuck take him out.

The series went in the wrong direction by having an iconic villain taken out by a not so iconic villain. Not to mention we witnessed a character return from the dead in Reg, who was iconic in seasons 1 and 2, and then we met his much older brother Trig, who is the anti-hero. Not really a villain, but has been attempting to change his life around, but he’s a member of the streets.

Trig is one of those characters as a viewer you root for, especially since the series has had so many changes since its inception. I mean the show seemed centered around Kevin, Papa and Jake. Jake is still a central figure as he deals with his out-of-control brother Reg, and his mentor in Trig. Kevin is long gone. The character vacated the series in season 6 and hasn’t looked back, as did his mother and her wife. Same for Tracy who was a staple in season 1, and dear God, I miss Emmett’s mother, Jada who died from cancer last season.

Yes, a bunch of characters just vanished from season 7 to season 8 with little to no explanation, including Pastor Zeke that has placed Papa on a spiral to smoking weed and taking pills. Then you have Bakari, who was fully engrained in the streets, but tried to do his best to escape, only to be pulled back in by Nuck and Reg of all people.

These two characters have become the big bads of season 8. Nuck is responsible for killing Rob who was Tiff’s fiancé. Like I already knew where the writers were headed with Nuck ultimately sleeping with Tiff. She is literally sleeping with the enemy and that changed with a bit of Intel. SPOILER ALERT: if you don’t want to know the truth stop reading now!

Well, Tiff got information from Rob who received that information from Lynae who got it from Kenya, who got it from Zay who was killed in season 7. Yeah, follow the train of thought. Tiff was always concerned about rather she could trust him, and when she learned the truth, you could see the rage in her face. What did Tiff do, she killed Nuck with two bullets to the head.

So now, she has murdered someone and it’s a question of how long she can stay mum. Why? Nuck is the father of Kiesha’s son, and she just got engaged to Emmett who is aware of Nuck’s role in Rob’s death. Yeah, I don’t know how Kiesha is going to be happy when she learns her baby’s father is dead and her pal Tiff did it. Not to mention people are going to wonder where Nuck is, and then you have Reg who is working for Roselyn who is responsible for setting up Shaad and Trig.

Roselyn is critical because she is the woman who murdered Alicia (Lynn Whitfield). That mystery still hasn’t been solved, but I’m certain before the season culminates, we’re going to see Roselyn receive her comeuppance and I cannot wait. I don’t think I have hated or been more annoyed by a character in my life.

My biggest concern is that with the series finale slowly approaching, another main character or two or even three will bite the dust and it’s going to be a character that stings the audience to the core. New episodes of “The Chi” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
