SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Fire Department participated in a Marine Rescue Assist on Treasure Island near the San Francisco Bay. The incident transpired on August 8 at 2:45 p.m.
San Francisco Fire Department Rescue Boat 35 was conducting a routine training exercise in the San Francisco Bay off Pier 22 1/2 when crew members heard a vessel distress call over U.S. Coast Guard channels. Fire Boat 35 self-dispatched and notified the San Francisco Fire Department Dispatch Center for additional resources.
Upon contact in the Bay off Treasure Island, Rescue Boat 35 confirmed all occupants on board the distressed vessel were safe.
Fire Boat 35, in collaboration with the United States Coast Guard, assisted the vessel back to port. Initial reports indicate the vessel suffered a mechanical issue requiring assistance.
The SFFD reminds all mariners to always wear life jackets, have a means of communication, and follow all U.S. Coast Guard safety standards when on any body of water.
