SAN FRANCISCO—On Friday, August 7, the San Francisco Police Department announced that partner public safety agencies continued to crack down on illegal drug activity in the Mid-Market corridor and across the city, leading to 74 arrests Wednesday, August 5, arrests of four shooting suspects last week, and the recent seizure of multiple pounds of illegal narcotics, SFPD Chief Derrick Lew announced Friday.
SFPD operations through the Drug Market Agency Coordination Center (DMACC) underscore the city’s ongoing commitment to dismantling drug-related activity in San Francisco while continuing to keep streets clean and safe.
Since launching in 2023, SFPD and partner law enforcement agencies have seized over 600 kilograms (1,323 lbs.) of deadly narcotics while making over 15,925 arrests, including arrests of 2,745 drug dealers.
Officers are making significant progress in attacking the drug markets. SFPD’s close partnership with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office is ensuring offenders are held accountable in the court of law.
Most recent cases occurred overnight Wednesday when SFPD officers assigned to DMACC, Sheriff’s Deputies, and the FBI made 74 arrests during joint operations around the Tenderloin, Mission, and Southern Districts. The operations involved identifying fugitives with outstanding arrest warrants and buy-bust operations of suspected drug dealers.
Of the 74 arrests made, 40 individuals had arrest warrants, and 34 individuals were arrested for outstanding and active warrants in addition to other felony violations. Officers seized a total of 363 grams of narcotics and three firearms during the operations.
Wednesday’s enforcement operations came one week after officers in the Narcotics Unit executed search warrants at four residences in Oakland where they seized over 8 pounds of narcotics earmarked for San Francisco along with multiple firearms, drug packaging supplies, cash, and ammunition. Officers arrested five suspected drug dealers in the investigation.
There were three separate shooting incidents occurred in the Mid-Market area last month, SFPD investigators and officers worked around the clock to identify and arrest the suspects involved. Officers arrested four suspects in two of the shootings so far.
On July 27, officers responded to a broad-daylight shooting at Market and Jones Streets. The SFPD rendered aid to the victim while investigators identified and arrested three suspects and seized a firearm. Authorities also arrested Raquan Murray, 26, in Union City on July 30 for the shooting on the unit block of Turk Street on July 24.
The SFPD will continue to work closely with partner city, state, and federal agencies to ensure San Francisco is relentless in cracking down on drug-related activity and violence on our streets.
