SAN FRANCISCO—On Thursday, August 6, the San Francisco Fire Department announced it battled a two-alarm fire on Fillmore Street. The fire was reported at approximately 1:56 a.m., to the 800 block of Fillmore Street for a reported structure fire. First-arriving crews found a three-story, multi-residential building over commercial space with heavy fire showing from the second floor and multiple occupants in need of rescue.
A second alarm was struck, and SFFD truck companies conducted an aggressive rescue operation using ground and aerial ladders. Firefighters rescued 18 individuals from second- and third-floor windows using ladder trucks and ground ladders, and several others were rescued by firefighters within the building’s interior.
One civilian sustained injury during the incident and is expected to recover.
The fire ultimately involved two structures at 865 Fillmore Street and 855 Fillmore Street
with no further extension to surrounding exposures. The fire was contained at 3:25 a.m. and declared under control at 3:33 a.m.
A total of 19 residents from 4 units were displaced as a result of the fire.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SMTA/Muni) was requested to provide a bus to serve as a temporary shelter for displaced residents, for which the San Francisco Human Services Agency (HSA) and the American Red Cross are providing services.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The incident remains under investigation.
