Georgia Sets Record After 9th Inmate Execution
Georgia has executed the most prisoners this year, at nine.

GEORGIA—An inmate was executed in Georgia on Tuesday, December 6, rising the number of inmates put to death in the state during 2016 to nine. The state currently holds the record for the most inmate executions in the country this year.

Texas ranks second, with seven deaths in 2016. Alabama is third, with two executions, followed by Florida and Missouri who have each carried out one.  Since the death penalty’s reinstatement in 1976, Georgia executed five inmates in 1987 and five inmates in 2015.

According to reports, Sallie assaulted his wife over a custody battle, before breaking into his estranged wife’s parent’s home, where she and her son had been living. He went to the master bedroom and shot his mother-in-law and father-in-law.

His mother-in-law, Linda Moore survived injuries she sustained, but his father-in-law, John Lee Moore died from his wounds.

After the shooting, the suspect abducted both his wife and her sister and fled to his mobile home. He later released both his estranged wife and sister-in-law, before being arrested by authorities.

William Sallie was sentenced to death for the shooting and killing of his father-in-law, John Lee Moore in 1990. According to reports, the 50-year-old inmate was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m. by lethal injection at the state prison in Jackson, Georgia.
