SAN FRANCISCO—On Thursday, January 15, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie delivered the first-ever State of the City Address outdoors in Angelo J. Rossi Playground at the Inner Richmond neighborhood, located on the corner of Anza Street and Arguello Boulevard. It started livestreaming at 10 a.m. on the official website of SFGovTV and its associated platforms, which included YouTube. The speech lasted approximately 40 minutes.

The address marked the one-year anniversary of Lurie’s mayoral inauguration from Wednesday, January 8, 2025, thus it was the beginning of his second year in office.

Some highlights from Lurie’s first year in office and priorities he has set forth in 2026:

-Public Safety: 2025 had been one of San Francisco’s safest in the City’s history yet. There had been a 30% crime drop, and a 54% increase in police department applications.

-Child Care Policy: Lurie announced a new initiative, starting on January 2026, for families of four, who are earning less than $230,000 annually.

-Bureaucracy Reform: Proposed merging of San Francisco Planning Department, Department of Building Inspection and San Francisco Permit Center into one, cohesive organization to streamline operations.

-Substance Abuse: Lurie introduced the RESET Center that is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2026 for those who are caught openly using drugs for detoxification and treatment.

-Civic Engagement: Lurie announced a citywide Day of Service for summer 2026, which is being jumpstarted by his wife and First Lady of San Francisco, Becca Prowda. Day of Service is to encourage San Francisco residents to join in community improvement and show civic pride.
