Deaf Woman Dies After Hit-And-Run

A Deaf woman was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.

HOLLYWOOD—Ebonie Powell, 34, was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Hollywood on November 26. She died four days later after being transported to Memorial Regional Hospital from severe head trauma and broken bones.

The driver struck Powell as she was attempting to cross Mayo Street and South 56th Avenue shortly after midnight. Authorities are still searching for the driver of the vehicle. Powell’s cousin found her at the scene of the accident.

Powell, a resident of Cocoa Beach, Florida, attended the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.
