OAKLAND—On Saturday, September 12, Lion Dance Café, a Singaporean and Chinese fusion restaurant, will have a soft open for its takeout service as a pop-up restaurant, S+M Vegan.

During its soft launch, customers are required to order food online starting at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9. Customers are available to pick their food up in front of the shop located at 380 17th Street on September 12 from through 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.

For customers who live five miles from the restaurant, they can pay $10.00 to @vegantransporter, an Oakland-based delivery service, at least one day before for Saturday delivery. Lion Dance Café offers food for at ready-to-eat temperature and a special limited menu for the opening.

According to Lion Dance Café’s website their “Flavors from our Teochew-Singaporean family style recipes, nostalgic hawker favorite and the legacy of the Chinese American diaspora.”

They make plant-based food, such as tomato sour leaf salad ($12.00), tofu nuggets ($10.00), brinjal in celery sambal ($10.00), shaobing sandwich ($15.00), guajillo sambal ($8.00), lime leaf fried peanuts ($7.50), and almond-sesame-shallot (A.S.S.) cookies ($5.00).

After opening week, Lion Dance café will open on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Maria Chia, owner of Lion Dance Café, told Eater SF that they are planning to expand their service hours on Thursdays evening and Sunday brunch hours. “Once we are confident enough in our kitchen systems and COVID safety protocols to start hiring,” said Chia.
