SAN FRANCISCO—On Thursday, May 6, 2026, San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu filed a lawsuit against Tenderloin’s The Corner Store to shut its doors down for one year and give them financial penalties. According to the lawsuit, it cited that its owners have been using the store for drug dealing activity. The store is being accused of selling drugs such as methamphetamine and other kinds of drugs over the counter in plain sight.
While doing a November 2025 inspection, San Francisco authorities found 48.1 grams of methamphetamine, nearly five pounds of cannabis, a ghost gun and digital scales.
The Corner Store was selling illegal flavored tobacco without any valid permit after the San Francsico Department of Public went in undercover.
One of the Corner Store’s owners, Abdulrahman Almehdhar, who is also the owner of SF Discount Market at 238 Leavenworth Street in the Tenderloin District, was sued in 2024 for hosting illegal gambling operations.
The present lawsuit is part of an initiative to facilitate the Nighttime Safety Ordinance which ensures cracking down on “nuisance” businesses that would bring on the drug trade.
There were other businesses in the Tenderloin District that were targeted or were being shuttered. Family Corner Discounts, located between Ellis Street and Jones Street, discovered that there were 50.8 grams of methamphetamine under a display shelf in 2025. It is now currently closed down.
EZ Dollar Discount Store, now renamed as Easy Dollar, located at 335 Jones Street, was sued for illegal gambling casino operations and fencing stolen goods from popular retailers such as Walgreen’s and CVS. There were lawsuits at both Ed’s Market, located at 153 Turk Street and US Smoke Shop, located at 415 Ellis Street, for gambling violations and possession of drug paraphernalia.
