YOUNTVILLE—On Friday, July 3, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Paul Pelosi, founder of Venture Capital and Financial Leasing Services, and husband to former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was involved in a car crash and left the scene of the accident.
A witness called 911 and reported that Pelosi, who was driving his brown convertible, struck a parked, unoccupied Tesla.
Napa County law enforcement officers discovered Pelosi’s damaged convertible on Yountville Cross Road, a quarter of a mile away. Paul was not arrested because there were no injuries.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Department (NCSD) recommended a misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene of an accident. According to NCSD, this was not an alcohol-related crash. Paul, 86, has been referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles for a driving evaluation due to his age.
According to reports, Paul briefly tapped his brakes and drove away. Pelosi’s convertible reportedly sustained major damage on the front right side, while the Tesla had damage to the rear-end.
A spokesperson for the Pelosi family reported that Paul personally apologized to the owner(s) and assured them that they will take full responsibility for the damages incurred.
On May 28, 2022, Paul was in another accident in Napa County. He was convicted in Napa County Superior Court on charges filed by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office.
Pelosi pleaded guilty to charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Causing Injury. Pelosi’s blood alcohol level was .08 percent.
Judge Solga sentenced Paul Pelosi to the following:
(1) He was placed on summary probation for 3 years;
(2) He had to pay a $1723 court fine;
(3) He had to serve five days in jail;
(4) He had to submit to a blood, breath, or urine test if requested by any law enforcement officer or probation officer if suspected of driving with a measurable amount of alcohol;
(5) He had to pay $4927.53 in victim restitution for medical bills and lost wages as well as a standard $150 restitution fine;
(6) He could not operate a motor vehicle with a measurable amount of alcohol;
(7) He had to immediately enroll in, pay for, and successfully complete a licensed DUI program for 3 months;
(8) Pelosi was forbidden to operate a motor vehicle unless it was equipped with a functioning, certified ignition device for 1 year. Based upon this conviction, the Department of Motor Vehicles can suspend Mr. Pelosi’s driver’s license for one year.
