SAN FRANCISCO—San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and San Francisco Police Officers Association (SFPOA) brokered a four-year agreement in March 2026, including a 14 percent pay raise for its officers. Firefighters were also included in the 14 percent pay hike as well. It will cost approximately $100 million over the next 2 years.
In April 2026, the new contract was ratified by union members in order to address understaffing so that it can recruit more members and keep old ones. While ratified by the union, it still had not been approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to become fully effective. On Friday, May 8, Lurie signed similar legislation for Firefighters Local 798 for a public safety agreement.
Police officers who had been on staff for at least 5 years, will receive three percent retention bonus. The contract is designated to make it more competitive for the San Francisco Police Department’s neighboring jurisdictions in order to fill up 500 vacant positions throughout the department.
The agreement comes when the city of San Francisco is facing a projected $877 million budget deficit in the next two years.
