HOLLLYWOOD—It has been awhile since we’ve discussed the delicious drama known as “Revenge.” The series which ended its second season with the death of a major character, an unexpected pregnancy and a jaw-dropping reveal returned with even more surprises. The third season opener “Fear,” contained one stunning cliffhanger that saw protagonist Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) shot twice! Yes, it appears this season’s biggest mystery will be who shot Emily! Start making your guesses now, my prediction speculates that it’s someone very close to her: Nolan or Charlotte you’re at the top of my list.
Let’s go back a bit though, as that revelation is not likely to happen until a few months. Shocker, Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) lost her baby with Declan, just as mother Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) did her best to reassure her daughter everything would be fine. Nolan (Gabriel Mann) was relieved to see Emily come to his rescue as he was released from prison. He was not too pleased to discover that Emily was once again engaged to Daniel (Joshua Bowman). I can’t peg just why she thinks Daniel will be the key to taking down the Grayson clan.
Speaking of Daniel, he got reacquainted with Margaux, an old school friend. Emily was quite emotional to see her ‘sister’ Charlotte who still has no idea of the bond they share. Emily paid a visit to the Grayson residence to meet Victoria’s new boy toy, who happens to be her first born son; stunned to see no one has yet to discover the ruse. It’s no secret to see these two women spar; in all honesty it’s quite a treat to watch villainy at its best.
Victoria and Conrad’s (Henry Czerny) level of bickering has not changed at all; so much for happily ever after. Charlotte was shocked to discover her mother’s mystery guest, Patrick (Justin Hartley) is her oldest brother; so much for welcome to the family. He appears to be aloof about the goings in the Grayson clan, which I am sure, will come to fruition in the coming weeks. There is a reason Patrick has returned to mommy dearest.
Emily was on eggshells as she came face-to-face with Jack; especially after the bombshell she dropped last season about her true identity. Is it me or has the character of Jack not really shaped much at all since the series debut. He’s lost a lot of people in his life, but in my opinion there is no evolution to his character. I can’t understand why he wouldn’t want to team up with Ms. Throne to take down the people responsible for killing his wife and his brother.
At Emily’s Memorial Day bash, the elite of The Hamptons mingled. Emily and Ashley (Ashley Madewke) locked eyes, as the duplicitous Throne played matchmaker. Nolan created a spectacle by arriving to the event via parachute. This was just the beginning of Emily’s plan, as she poisoned Conrad and doctored his medical files to make it look like he’s suffering from Huntington’s disease. This prompted Conrad to relinquish the power that had just been given to him as Governor. Hmm, so sad, but he absolutely deserves to suffer a bit for his evil antics.
Victoria and Emily worked well together to blackmail Ashley into leaving town for her actions. The series send-off for Ashley was a bit pointless and almost laughable in my opinion; to see two major enemies come together to take out a foe that really wasn’t a foe to begin with was a complete waste of time. Better time could have been spent examining the relationship between Emily and Jack or some other worthwhile character. Emily decided August 8, would be the date for her and Daniel’s wedding; predicting something magical to happen, how about something horrible.
In the final moments of the episode, Victoria was stunned to see Aidan (Barry Sloane) standing on her porch pledging his allegiance to help her take down Emily Thorne. So, Danny didn’t take out Aidan last season. Looks like season three of “Revenge” is going to be bloody good. Until 9 p.m. next Sunday “Revenge” lovers!
