SAN FRANCISCO—A shooting occurred from a police officer of the San Francisco Police Department at 11:19 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, September 4, 2025, when a man showed law enforcement a sharp object on United States (U.S.) Highway 101. This incident occurred at Cesar Chavez Street and Potrero Avenue off-ramp from northbound at U.S. Highway 101 adjacent to Bayshore Avenue.
This all came about because this individual was walking on the U.S. Highway 101 off-ramp Cesar Chavez Street with San Francisco sheriff’s deputies and police officers of the San Francisco Police Department. While talking with police officers and deputies, he pulled out a sharp-edged object. The police opened fire on him. San Francisco Fire Department was called due to the man’s life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Priscilla Chan and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. There has been no update on his medical condition yet. He is the only one in this incident to be injured.
During the shooting investigation, the northbound lane four and lane five on U.S. Highway 101 and the Cesar Chavez Street and Potrero Avenue were closed without any timeline for reopening.
San Francisco Police Department Internal Affairs and San Francisco’s Department of Police Accountability will investigate this incident. A town hall meeting regarding this incident is going to be held within ten days
