SAN FRANCISCO—Pablo Ramirez, a 26-year-old skateboarder was hit and killed by a commercial truck in on Tuesday, April 23.
Ramirez was reportedly hit by the driver of the truck around 12:16 p.m. on Seventh Street between Howard and Mission Streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Skateboarders arrived at the scene to mourn the death of Ramirez, who was known as “P-Spliff” in the skateboarding circle. Ramirez’ Instagram is full of videos of his skateboarding adventures. Many fans have commented on his videos since the accident, saying “RIP” and calling him a legend.
Thrasher magazine posted the following message in tribute to Ramirez on its Instagram page:
“Pablo Ramirez was a beautiful spirit, overflowing with love and unyielding energy. It’s impossible to articulate the passion he brought to every waking moment, every session with the homies. A burning fire in our skateboarding community has dimmed. This is heartbreaking 💔.”
The San Francisco Police Department tweeted, “Vehicle collision (skateboarder vs. commercial vehicle) on 100 block of 7th street. #SFPD is on scene. Please avoid the area and expect street closures and traffic delays. #SFTraffic #Traffic.”
Streets were closed in the area during the investigation. The driver of the commercial truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities during their investigation.
