HOLLYWOOD─We had the Critic’s Choice nominees on Sunday, the Golden Globe contenders on Monday, however, the biggest precursor to where Oscar may be headed, the Screen Actors Guild unveiled its nominees for 2020 on Wednesday, December 11. Let’s just say continuing with the trend of awards season, there were indeed some surprises people.

To kick things off it was the films “The Irishman” and “Bombshell” that led all contenders with four nominations apiece including Outstanding Ensemble in a Motion Picture. Followed close behind were the films “Marriage Story” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with three nominations apiece. However, there were plenty who received Golden Globe nominations, but no love from SAG.

Amongst those snubbed included Eddie Murphy who was missing from the Lead Actor race for his performance in “Dolemite is My Name.” Perhaps, the biggest snub that I’m certain will NOT be overlooked come Oscar is Robert De Niro for his fantastic performance in “The Irishman.” How the Globes and SAG can overlook this iconic actor, I could not tell you. However, mark my word, De Niro will get a Best Actor Oscar nomination, so Taron Egerton and Christian Bale should look out, cause the other three slots between Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix and Adam Driver are indeed locks.

Other big surprises were nominations in the acting front for Lupita Nyong’o for “Us” and Nicole Kidman nabbing a Supporting Actress nomination for her performance of Gretchen Carlson in the FOX News drama “Bombshell.” That is seriously the one movie I have been waiting months to see that teaser trailer was one of the best I’ve witnessed in years people.
