WALNUT CREEK—On Monday, August 3, the NBA G League chose the city of Walnut Creek to be the home for their new team, which means there will be opportunity to play in the Golden State Warriors backyard.

Shams Charania, senior lead NBA Insider, Writer, and Analyst for The Athletic and Stadium, issued a tweet stating, “The NBA G League has decided on a location for its new Pro Pathway team.”

According to gleague.nba.com site, “players signed to Select Contracts, will be earn $125,000 for the five-month NBA G League season.”

In order for players to be draft eligible, they must be 19 years old. There has been basketball players like LaMelo Ball and RJ Hampton who were top recruits coming out of high school, who decided to play overseas instead of doing a year in college so they could be draft eligible immediately. The Pro Pathway team will give prospects the opportunity to draft eligible once their G League season concludes.

On Thursday, April 14, five-star prospect Jalen Green who is a from California, stated on a Instagram live:

“I have some exciting news this year, since we are social distancing, me and my family came up with a way to announce this and share the news with everyone.. at the end of the day its been a crazy exciting journey for me and my family, a lot of opportunities have came, but the ultimate end goal is to get to the NBA. With that being said I decided to partner with the NBA G League’s new team for elite players.”

Another top high school prospect, Jonathan Kuminga decided to go professional as well.

Three months later, Charania tweeted “No. 1 2021 prospect Jonathan Kuminga has reclassified to the 2020 high school class and will sign in the NBA G League pro pathway program.”

Ryan Morgan from KTVU FOX 2 reported that “Multiple reports name The Ultimate Fieldhouse, where Warriors star Steph Curry hosts his summer camp for boys and girls, a likely venue.”

Representatives of the NBA G League, Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, and The Ultimate Fieldhouse have not responded to the San Francisco News for comment.
