UNITED STATES—I tried, but for the life of me, I cannot understand the hype that so many people have for the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” I just kept hearing so much about this series, and the fact that its final season was going to be epic, I had to jump in and give the series a try. I’ve watched a couple of episodes in the past, but every time I try to sit down and watch “Game of Thrones” I end up having thousands more questions than answers.

Maybe the series is just not for some people. I’d like to think I’m a fan of sci-fi, fantasy and adventure, but it seems GOT is a genre of its own. I have never seen anything like this on TV and that uniqueness alone should have me glued to the series. This is a show that is rooted in medieval times, and in the most of beautiful imagery this series is excessive when it comes to violence and sex.

GOT is not for kids let me just say that, and the sex scenes can be disturbing at times. I guess in so many words this is a show that is a bit much for my taste. I wanted to be part of the water cooler conversation, but came into the realization there are other shows that I watch and actually enjoy that I know others watch. There is just so much on TV right now between network, cable, Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, the list goes on, and that makes it impossible to watch every single series. I mean you would virtually have to sit on the couch for hours end without a break to try to watch everything or binge watch to get caught up. Look, I’m all for a good binge watch, but it has to be a series that instantly grabs my attention. When it comes to GOT, the show just doesn’t have anything that hooks me.

The one thing I can tell you is that everyone wants to be sitting on the throne. That is fun and interesting, and when you toss in the backstabbing and deception it sounds like a good series, but I find myself bored watching GOT. It’s like I want more in the narrative; I need that HOOK that draws me in and doesn’t let me go. Yes, I said it, the show bores me more than it entertains me so what can you do.

I gave it a shot, but it’s just a bit much for my liking. There are those shows that just cater to all and then there are those shows that are for some and not for others. So anyone who asks let me be crystal clear, “I’m not a fan of “Game of Thrones.” I gave it a shot, but I just can’t get into it.
