SAN FRANCISCO—Four stabbings occurred on Mission Street amidst the celebrations of the Golden State Warriors win the NBA finals from June 16 to June 17.
The first occurred on Mission and 22nd Street at around 6 p.m. on June 16. An argument erupted between a 37-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, resulting in violence.
The woman thrusted a knife into the man’s thigh and then fled. The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. His injury was not life threatening.
The police set up a blockade for the streets after the Warriors win. At 9:30 p.m. the celebration picked up with hundreds joining the festivities at 24th and Mission.
At around 11:45 p.m., on Mission and 24th Street, a young man was celebrating with the crowd when he was approached by two men and a fight ensued. He was repeatedly stabbed by a sharp object in the torso. The suspects ran away before the police could catch them. The young man was sent to San Francisco General Hospital and his injuries were determined not to be life threatening.
Two people were arrested at 12 a.m. for throwing bottles at the police.
At 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday, a large group on Mission and 24th Street participated in a brawl which resulted in the stabbing of a young man. He was injured in the abdomen by an unknown sharp object. After being taken to SFGH, his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. Five people were detained during the melee, but afterwards it was determined that they were not involved.
Nearly an hour later, at 5:30 a.m., a young woman stabbed a young man she was arguing with in the abdomen and chest. He suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to SFGH. The female suspect fled before the police arrived.
There were a total of 14 arrests mostly for public drunkenness. None of the incidents were directly related to the NBA finals.
