SAN FRANCISCO—Ten people were injured after a gray Toyota crashed into a bus stop in San Francisco’s Chinatown on Friday, December 16.

The accident occurred on Stockton Street between Sacramento and Clay Streets.

“Somehow that vehicle veered and hit another vehicle and then subsequently hit the Muni structure,” said San Francisco Police Officer Robert Rueca.

A third vehicle was also struck by the Toyota.

Multiple people were transported to local hospitals as a result of the accident, including several individuals who were waiting at the bus stop and both drivers involved.

San Francisco General Hospital treated five people for injuries sustained, the hospital announced.

Injuries among those hit by the car included broken legs, back, and head injuries, said San Francisco Fire Department Battalion Chief Paul Crawford.

Four people were listed in serious condition and two people are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

A witness to the accident, Tom Lao, told ABC 7 News that the driver, “hit the pole and people were just scattered everywhere.”

Part of the the Muni Bus stop structure collapsed after some of the glass supporting the midblock was spread across the sidewalk and streets.

San Francisco Board of Supervisor Aaron Peskin, who represents Chinatown, was on the scene and witnessed the aftermath of the crash.

“There were lots of individuals on the ground, many of them bleeding. There’s blood all over the sidewalk. It’s a horrific scene,” said Peskin.

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle is cooperating with police. At this time, no arrests have been made as authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
