12 Years a Slave

HOLLYWOOD—Let the awards season begin! The 2013 Film Independent Spirit Award Nominees were announced on Tuesday, November 26 and leading the pack of nominees was the drama “12 Years A Slave” with seven nominations including Best Feature.  Following close behind was the film “Nebraska” with six nominations including Best Director for Alexander Payne. Both films compete against “All Is Lost,” “Inside Llewyn Davis” and “Frances Ha.”

The nominees were announced by Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer (“The Help”) and Paula Patton (“Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”). Actor, director, writer and producer Robert Redford picked up his first Spirit nomination for Best Male Lead for his work in “Lost.”  He’ll compete against Michael B. Jordan “Fruitvale Station,” Matthew McConaughey “Dallas Buyers Club,” Oscar Issac “Inside Llewyn Davis,” Bruce Dern “Nebraska” and Chiwetel Ejiofor “12 Years A Slave.”

In the Best Female Lead category, the nominees are Cate Blanchett “Blue Jasmine,” Brie Larson “Short Term 12,” Julie Deply “Before Midnight” Gaby Hoffman “Crystal Fairy” and Shailene Woodley “The Spectacular Now.” A full list of the 2014 nominees are indicated below.
