SAN FRANCISCO—On Monday, May 11, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office announced that a conviction was obtained against Jason Johnson, 54, after a trial by jury for smashing a parked car with an A-Frame. He was convicted of vandalism (PC 594(b)(1)).
According to evidence and other testimony presented at trial, on January 7, Johnson approached the victim’s parked car near North Point and Van Ness Avenue, while the victim was in the car. The victim exited his vehicle while waiting for co-workers and tried to maintain a safe distance from the defendant who had picked up an A-Frame road barricade and was walking toward the victim’s vehicle. He struck the victim’s car several times with the A-Frame, breaking the rear passenger side window and denting the door.
The case against Johnson was successfully prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shauna Kashyap, with assistance from paralegal Raquel Paz Aleman and IT support from Leland Chan and Morris Moore. Prosecutors were able to develop this case based on the San Francisco Police Department’s Central Station’s thorough investigation.
“Thank you to the jury for their time, attentiveness, and thoughtful consideration throughout this trial,” said Assistant District Attorney Shauna Kashyap. “Cases like this can present difficult and deeply human questions, but our justice system depends on jurors who are willing to carefully weigh the evidence and apply the law fairly and compassionately. We appreciate their service.”
