SANTA MONICA—On September 1, new reports were released of weapons that the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) deputies discovered in the black Audi that crashed in the vicinity of downtown Santa Monica on August 25th.
Initial reports by SMPD personnel indicated that the black Audi was tied to another case involving thefts of catalytic converters. The Audi was the vehicle that crashed near 2nd Street and Colorado Avenue. Several people were inside the vehicle when it crashed. They immediately fled the scene.
An unrelated person took a backpack from the Audi. SMPD officers were able to track that person with modern technology to a nearby alley where the backpack was discarded. When officers confiscated the backpack, they discovered two ghost guns. The suspect who was in possession of the backpack was arrested and taken into police custody.
Four male suspects including two juveniles who were affiliated with the Audi crash were arrested.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Rampart Division identified the vehicle as the same Audi stolen in an armed carjacking in another case that is still under investigation.
Canyon News reached out to Lieutenant Gilmour at the Santa Monica Police Department for more information and a statement, but did not hear back in time for print.
