SAN FRANCISCO—On November 16, a gas leak occurred in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood (SOMA). Officials proceeded to close off Townsend Street.

The San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) shared on Twitter at 12:58 p.m. that the 3-inch pipe line leakage took place before 1 p.m. at a construction site located at 510 Townsend Street.

Drivers were told to expect detours and steer clear of the closed off areas that included 5th and 7th Streets as officials worked to fix the leak.

PG&E crew members arrived at the site and fixed the leak within 40 minutes of the SFFD’s initial Twitter post.

At around 1:40 p.m. the SFFD took to Twitter again to inform the public that PG&E had fixed the leak. No evacuation or shelter in place instructions were given following the occurrence.
