Bodega Bay, CA—On the afternoon of Monday, November 18, 2024, rough seas in Bodega Bay near Salmon Creek caused a boat to capsize, leading to one death and four others injured, according to NBC Bay Area.
Authorities received a distress call around 1:45 p.m. after the vessel was spotted struggling in turbulent ocean conditions. Some passengers were reported overboard while others remained on the boat before it capsized.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Sonoma Fire responded to the emergency, rescuing four individuals from the water. All four survivors were transported to local hospitals.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, and further details about the incident remain under investigation.
This marks the third fatal capsizing in the Bodega Bay area this month, highlighting the dangers of the region’s unpredictable waters.
Insurance Claims in Boating Accidents
Just like drivers are legally required to carry liability insurance for a motor vehicle, boat owners must also hold insurance coverage in case of accidental injuries for which they might share responsibility. This coverage applies toward their passengers as well as those outside of the boat. Claims like these are not intended to punish boat operators but simply to make sure their insurance provider properly compensates any who have been harmed in an accident.
However, insurance companies are notorious for attempting to deny, delay, and minimize claims when doing so might save them money. The assistance of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can prove critical in holding insurance companies accountable.
