HOUSTON, TX—The NBA trade deadline came and went last week with seemingly no drama. A little wrinkle has unfolded as one of those trades has reportedly been voided.

Power Forward Ponatas Matiejunas, who was sent from the Houston Rockets to the Detroit Pistons, failed his physical due to back problems.

Matiejunas underwent back surgery late last season giving him the opportunity to have a full off-season to recover. In the beginning of the 2015 season he faced a few set-backs in his recovery forcing him to continue non-action.

He didn’t make his first start until December 5, and played just 14 games total. He left the December 31 game after just six minutes due to back soreness.

On January 30, 2016 after being cleared to play in games, Matiejunas was assigned to the D-League to work out his ailing back.

The failed physical means that Matiejunas will be returned to Houston. The Pistons will keep their 2016 first round draft pick and Marcus Thorton. Joel Anthony, who the Rockets received from the Pistons and then sent to the 76ers, will be returned to Detroit.

The three teams had until 6 p.m. EST Monday to finalize the trade, after Detroit requested a 24-hour extension to complete a medical examination.
