WALNUT CREEK—On November 15, the Berean Christian High School Eagles barely defeated the visiting California School for the Deaf (CSD) team 15-14. This match-up was the first round of the North Coast Section Division V playoffs. With Berean, the seventh seed, trying to make history by taking their team to the second round for the first time ever, CSD almost crushed their dreams at halftime.

CSD, the 10th seed, scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, thanks to Zane Pedersen their quarterback, and pulled ahead 14-9. Despite the Eagles’s mistakes, including a fumble, CSD’s safety caused them to lose the game by 1 point. A hard loss for CSD, but a driving force for Berean, as they can now taste their school’s historic venture into the second round.

The next round kicks off on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the Eagles.
