Fremont, CA—On the evening of Monday, February 24, 2025, a 79-year-old Fremont man suffered fatal injuries after crashing his vehicle into a tree, according to NBC Bay Area.
The Fremont Police Department reports that the accident took place around 6:40 p.m. in the 40500 block of Albrae Street. Officers and emergency responders arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a serious crash involving a single vehicle.
A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling southbound when it struck a curb while approaching a turn. The impact sent the vehicle off the roadway, where it crossed a grassy area before colliding with a tree.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained major injuries, including head trauma. Emergency personnel provided immediate medical aid before transporting him to a local hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead later that evening.
A passenger inside the vehicle, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not report any injuries and remained at the scene to speak with authorities.
Investigators have not yet determined whether factors such as speed, impairment, or medical conditions contributed to the crash. Authorities continue to review evidence, and the investigation remains ongoing.
This incident marks the second fatal traffic collision reported in Fremont in 2025. Anyone with additional information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Fremont Police Department.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
