SAN FRANCISCO—The iconic Golden Gate bridge toll will raise in the coming years. In the last decade, the toll has been known to jump up $1 at a time.

Presently, the toll is $6 for Fastrak commuters and $7 for everyone else. On Wednesday, July 1 the toll will rise another 25 cents. It is part of a plan to raise the toll to $2 by the year 2018.
According to statistics, if a person receives two weeks vacation, but commutes every other working day, they will pay $1,560 in tolls per year. The toll increase will account for $60 additional bucks from last year.
Bridge General Manager, Denis Mulligan, states the reason for the Golden Gate Bridge toll increase is for aging busses, ferries, facilities, and future general improvements. Other bridge officials claim they have been putting other efforts forth to lower costs of maintenance to avoid passing on rising costs to commuters. Officials still stand by the motion to raise the toll as necessary.
