SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department is moving from its home in the city’s Hall of Justice to a new state-of-the-art facility in the Mission Bay.

Following a 50-year stay at the a Hall of Justice, the department chose to move from the old building to a location more befitting a cutting-edge police force. The new Mission Bay facility is a six-floor $243 million building capable of withstanding an earthquake.

A new six-story building in Mission Bay will house the SFPD.

In case of disaster, the building is also complete with an emergency operations center and a backup generator capable of powering the facility for four days.

Though San Francisco law enforcement has moved out of the Hall of Justice, both the courts and the District Atorney’s office will remain in the building. This is a decision that many are questioning, with safety concerns in case of either an earthquake or fire cited as the main arguments for relocating the city’s legal headquarters.
