Oakland, CA—A hit-and-run collision involving a Tempo Line 1T bus on Friday afternoon, November 15, 2024, left a teenage passenger and the bus driver injured, according to KTVU.

The accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of 64th Avenue and International Boulevard.

Authorities reported that the bus was traveling southbound in the designated bus-only lane when a black Chevrolet sedan suddenly attempted an illegal U-turn from the adjacent general traffic lane.

The sedan crossed directly into the bus’s path, leading to a collision. Despite the bus driver’s efforts to brake, the impact could not be avoided. The Chevrolet driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The bus, carrying approximately 50 passengers, sustained minimal damage. However, a teenage rider fell during the collision and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to AC Transit officials. The bus driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

First responders arrived promptly, and all remaining passengers were able to leave the scene without further assistance. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation and is working to identify the driver of the Chevrolet sedan involved in the hit-and-run.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Personal Injury Claims

When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a Personal Injury claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.

However, insurance companies often try to deny or minimize claims. That’s why having a knowledgeable personal injury attorney on your side is crucial to securing proper compensation for your injuries.
