BEVERLY HILLS—Well, things this awards season are about to get interesting people! The nominees for the 2017 Golden Globes were announced on Monday, December 12. Leading the pack of contenders is the musical “La La Land” which earned a total of seven nominations including Best Motion Picture – Drama. Followed close behind was the drama “Moonlight” which earned six nominations.

On the TV side of things, the FX hit “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” picked up a total of five nominations. Well, it wouldn’t be awards season without a few snubs people. No love for Taraji P. Henson in the Best Actress race for Motion Picture Drama. No love for Tom Hanks in the Best Actor race for “Sully.” Also no directorial nod for either Clint Eastwood or Denzel Washington who were considered favorites for “Sully” and “Fences,” instead that nomination went to Tom Ford for “Nocturnal Animals.”

I’m still shocked a bit by the contenders for Best Motion Picture – Drama! I mean where is “Fences,” “Hidden Figures,” “Sully” and “Arrival?” The same sentiment can be echoed on the TV side, no love for “Empire,” not to mention there was not a single contender in the Best Actor or Best Actress race in a TV Drama from network TV!
