HOLLYWOOD—Let’s face it January is never a good time for movies.  Its usually the time when studios release those pictures they wish they never worked on to begin with.  For those looking to catch a flick over the weekend two new releases are sure to please any avid moviegoer’s cup of tea.

First up we have the comedy “Movie 43” which stars almost every single A-list actor in the industry.  Some of those actors/actresses include Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Kate Winslet, Richard Gere, Anna Faris, Terrence Howard and Elizabeth Banks to name a few.  The premise involves 12 different storylines each heralded by a different director like Peter Farrelly, Elizabeth Banks, Brett Ratner and Steve Carr to name a few.

If you’ve seen the trailer for “Movie 43” you know some heinous things take place.  I would say it’s a movie about actors behaving badly and it looks absolutely hilarious on the big screen.  Whether or not the gags and laughs are pushed too far is yet to be known, but with an R-rating I would say that’s a safe bet.

If comedy is not your cup of tea, then you may be interested in the action-thriller “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” which re-imagines the classic fairy tale about two youths lost in the woods.  This outing is a bit more modern that follows Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) who are adults that hunt witches and exterminate them.  Portraying the villainess in the flick is Famke Jansen as Muriel, a wicked sorceress hoping to send a message to the witch hunters.

The picture is depicted in 3-D for those moviegoers who are fascinated by that form of technology. For those concerned whether it’s worth seeing the movie in all of its three-dimensional glory, you should as it was shot in 3D, not converted like most movies. If you’re looking for something to give you a bellyache see “Movie 43.”  If action, scares and blood get under your skin “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” is the movie for you.
