San Jose, CA—On the night of Saturday, April 19, 2025, a high-speed crash involving an overturned vehicle resulted in one fatality and led to the driver’s arrest, according to Bay City News.
The San Jose Police Department reports that the collision occurred around 9:00 p.m. on the northbound San Tomas Expressway, just south of Moorpark Avenue.
According to investigators, a 2005 beige Nissan sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and struck a stump. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn.
A female passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released. The male driver was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since stabilized.
Upon his release, the driver is expected to be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
This incident marks San Jose’s ninth fatal traffic collision of 2025.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
