SANTA CLARA—Former Heisman Trophy winner and number-two overall pick Reggie Bush is paying a visit to Santa Clara to visit with San Francisco 49ers brass.
Both sides have expressed mutual interest and San Francisco has been bantered about as a potential landing spot for the California native ever since his February release from Detroit.
Bush, who is coming off of an injury-plagued season with the Detroit Lions, could add a pass-catching, home-run threat to the San Francisco offense, a dimension that is. To present in the team’s current stable of tailbacks.
If signed, Bush will not be expected to be a workhorse runner, but rather, a change-of-pace to the hard-nosed style of emerging second-year tailback Carlos Hyde.
If Bush stays healthy, the move may prove one of the shrewder signings of the 2015 off-season. If not, the former USC star could find himself yet another forgotten runner on the wrong side of 30.
