Serial Arsonist Suspected In Castro

SAN FRANCISCO—Evidence is mounting that a serial arsonist has been operating in San Francisco in the city’s Castro neighborhood.

On Monday, January 19, three additional early morning fires caused thousands of dollars in damage, destroying a pickup truck and scorching the facade of a home in the region.

Firefighters and police officers responded to the first fire, that was reported at around 4 a.m., near 19th and Castro Streets. Similar to fires from the previous week, the blaze engulfed the parked vehicle, which was ignited in the truck’s bed and spread to its cab.

Just 30 minutes and two blocks away, two more fires were set opposite each other close to the intersection of 18th and Harford Streets.

Firefighters managed to extinguish both fires, which burned outside neighborhood homes. There were no reports of any injuries to inhabitants of the homes, an estimated $20,000 in damage was reported to the house-front.
