OAKLAND—Since the shelter-in-place order enacted in March 2020, sisters, Brianna and Ashley Wong, of East Bay, California, have been using their handicraft skills to make products and donate to local institutions. They donated their sales to Heifer International, World Vision, Compassion, No Kid Hungry, Bay Area Schools, and the Oakland Zoo.

Brianna, 10, and Ashley, 6, create small leather goods, such as key chains ($15-$80), coasters ($36-$89), jewelry ($18-$42), and journals ($32-$38) on their duck + chick website. Some leather key chains are inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, impressing words, like “AIR HUGS, HEALTH HERO, and WASH YOUR HANDS” on the leather straps. Customers can also personalize their name tags by putting their names.

According to the duck + chick website, Brianna and Ashley started the handcrafted business after they purchased farm animals (duck + chicks) by donating their Christmas money two years ago. They also collaborate with Oaklandish.
