SAN FRANCISCO—Officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrested Giovanni Lauretta, 30, of San Francisco on June 14 in connection to nine counts of mail theft, identity theft, burglary, receiving stolen property and elder abuse, after he was served a search warrant at his home. Members from the Taraval Station Investigators team assisted in the arrest.

According to a press release from the SFPD website, the suspect was released on his own recognizance and re-offended again. Taraval Station Investigators quickly nabbed Lauretta a second time on August 1 for an additional 20 counts of mail theft, possession of stolen property and elder abuse. Officials were able to get the courts to raise the defendants bail to $500,000 to prevent him from being re-released into the community.

Lauretta has been connected to defrauding more than 40 victims in the Taraval District. Taraval Station Investigators are working with the U.S. Postal Inspectors on the investigation. Any victims who believe they may have been targeted should contact Sergeant Farrell of Taraval Station at 415-759-3120 or Sergeant Goldsborough at number 415-759-3145.
