HOLLYWOOD—Celebrities once again, flocked to the annual Tribeca Film Festival in its 13th year. The festival kicked off on April 16 and ends on April 27. This year because of the Passover and Easter holidays, the Vanity Fair party didn’t kick off the film festival usually held the day before the festival begins.

The festival was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff to spotlight the New Yorkfilmmaking community. The festival was created back in 2002 and has been bringing people together since the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The festival attracts A-list celebrities, VIPs, and filmgoers. They even provide coffee at certain premieres and red carpet events since the journalists really need all the coffee they can drink to keep up with the premieres. The festival always reminds me of the holidays where you have a smorgasbord of appetizing meals to indulge in and you know that you have to leave room for delightful and delicious desserts.

The festival never disappoints from comedies to documentaries to political thrillers. It always brings an array of diversified films hat provoke the individual moviegoer and critic to explore not only the film itself, but the company of the people behind the film. While it is a given that some films will be successful, others will never be seen outside of the festival.

One of the movies that will be a hit is the film “The Chef,” which has an all-star cast including Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Sofia Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, John Leguizamo and Bobby Canavale. The film stars Jon Favreau who plays a chef with all the ups and downs of being self-employed.

Another must-see movie is “Every Secret Thing,” which stars John Lithgow, Alfred Molina, Marisa Tomei, Cheyenne Jackson, Manny Perez and Darren Burrows. Ira Sachs does a great job in directing this heartfelt and brilliant hot-button social issue.

Another film which is incredible is “Palo Alto,” which stars Emma Roberts, James Franco, Jack Kilmer, Nat Wolff, Zoe Levin and Val Kilmer. Roberts plays (April) an intelligent free-spirited young woman who finds herself attracted to artist (Teddy) Jack Kilmer.

A festival favorite is “Third Person,” directed by Paul Haggis. He brings to the screen a drama of love. For those of you that enjoy an all-star cast this is the movie for you. It stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Liam Neeson, Olivia Wilde, Adrien Brody and Maria Bello. The film weaves through the personal twists and turns of modern relationships.

The documentary “The Search for General Tso,” is a winner in my book. With an estimated 50,000 Chinese restaurants in the U.S., this film is a delightful documentary of one of the most delicious dishes on the menu. This is an incredible journey through a cultural and culinary history of Chinese immigration to the USA.

Rose’s Scoop: The world premiere documentary “My Own Man,” along with “Iverson,” will end the festival on April 27.
