BERKELEY—Two people were stabbed on an escalator at the downtown Berkeley BART station on Tuesday, August 6, resulting in both victims being hospitalized.

The stabbing occurred at 12:50 a.m., as the two victims were going up the escalator to Shattuck Avenue.

“Investigators have retrieved some surveillance video from a business near the station. It shows the suspect arguing with the two victims. They walk away and he followed them,” said BART in a statement.

The victims have been identified as a 27-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman; the male victim was transported to the Alta Bates Medical Center and the female victim was taken to Highland Hospital. BART spokesperson Jim Allison said that they are set to make a full recovery.

Surveillance video shows that the suspect fled on a bicycle from the station. He is described as “Black male, 20-25-years-old, slim build, medium complexion.” He was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, grey pants with a black stripe down the sides and dark shoes. Anyone with information on the suspect or the incident is asked to contact authorities.
