Uber Driver Detains, Robs Passenger

SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, April 25, a man who requested a ride to his South Beach home using the Uber app was allegedly robbed by the driver of the black town car that he was paired with.

The victim, 30, requested a driver at approximately 1 a.m. After he was driven to his drop-off location, near the crossing of Embarcadero and Brannan Street, the victim claims his Uber driver refused to let him exit the vehicle.

The victim eventually opened the car door and made a run for it. He was quickly pursued by the driver, who allegedly robbed him of his cell phone and wallet. The suspect subsequently fled the scene and remains at large.

Though police reports state that the victim suffered a dislocated knee during the assault, he was not transported to the hospital for treatment.
