SAN BRUNO—At least three people are injured after a woman opened fire at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno on Tuesday, April 3 at 12:46 p.m. Authorities have identified the shooter as Nasim Aghdam, 39, who died on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

The San Bruno Police Department indicated in a press release they received numerous 9-1-1 calls reporting gunshots at the YouTube Campus located at 901 Cherry Avenue in San Bruno.

Officers arrived on scene at 12:48 p.m. and entered the building to search for the suspect. Arriving officers encountered numerous employees fleeing the premises. Officers encountered one victim with an apparent gunshot wound at the site and two additional gunshot victims that had fled to a neighboring business. A total of four people were transported to local hospitals, three of which were suffering from gunshot wounds.

Aghdam, who used the alias Nasime Sabz on her social media pages, was an animal rights activist and frequent vlogger on YouTube. Her channel identified her as a “the Persian Azeri female vegan athlete and animal rights activist promoting VEGANISM, the healthy and humane way of living.”

Aghdam was frustrated with YouTube’s policies. On her personal website, she wrote about her perceived hardship, claiming that YouTube was not paying her for the amount of page views she received through her YouTube channel.

“There is no free speech in [the] real world, and you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system. Videos of targeted users are filtered and merely relegated, so that people can hardly see their videos!” She then added, “There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site [ ].”

Reports of the shooting being a domestic dispute have been ruled out. According to reports, the suspect’s boyfriend was injured during the incident. Aghdam did not know anyone at the company. Anyone with any information related to this crime is urged to contact the San Bruno Police Department at (650) 616-7100 or by email: sbpdtipline@sanbruno.ca.gov.
