HOLLYWOOD—Well, another comic book flick has rose to the top spot at the box-office yet again this summer. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” dazzled moviegoers earning $76 million over the weekend. It is a respectable debut considering its predecessor earned $57 million during its debut in 2015, but with so many flicks crossing $100 million during its opening weekend, I just expected larger numbers for the flick. On an internal scale, the film managed to earn $85 million giving it a global tally over $160 million.

Rather the film will ride that success into next week is debatable. “Incredibles 2” continues to dazzle audiences to land in second place with $29 million. Since its release nearly a month ago, the sequel has since crossed the $500 million mark at the domestic box-office. It’s a massive hit at the box-office to say the least and perhaps the only family-friendly flick.

Dropping to third place was “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” with $28.6 million. The sequel has earned over $333 million domestically since its release on June 22. The other new debut of the week, the prequel “The First Purge” earned a solid $31.1 million since its release in theaters on July 4. I was feeling a bit of fatigue for the franchise, but it’s apparent the film still has an audience that is interested in the melee. Rounding out the top five was another sequel, “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” with $7.3 million. The sequel starring Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro has earned just over $35 million since its debut.

This weekend “Ant-Man and the Wasp” will have to do battle with the action-thriller “Skyscraper” starring ‘The Rock’ and the animated flick “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.” I’ll be honest next week anyone could be victorious.
