The video footage shows the school bus aide shouting at student, Gunnar Johansson, the moment he stepped on the bus.
“Boy, if you don’t take that hat off this bus…take it off, take it off and put it in your backpack.” Gunnar told reporters he was confused as to why he couldn’t wear the hat, telling the aide, ”Why, What? I can’t wear a hat?”
You can hear the aide saying, “Gunnar, do you want a referral?” Johansson replied: “Yes.” Other students started chiming in saying, “Write him up, write him up.” The aide informs the students to “turn around and mind their own business.”
Gunnar’s brother along with other students began texting the child’s mother, Jacquelyn Putt. The student replied to the aide’s request for the duration of the ride. There were students on the bus wearing hats. Gunnar told WSVN News that he was wearing the hat “To show pride in Trump America” and “Stand up for what I believe in.”
Putt told WSVN News, “I immediately went up to the school. I needed to know what my son just went through and what she did to my son. We all have a right to who we want to vote for. This is America.”
Putt filed a police report, where Lt. Ryan Grimsdale indicated they were able to confirm that the school bus aide did in fact, remove the hat and that they would be talking to all parties involved.
The Martin County School District has not confirmed the status of the school bus aide. In his interview, Johansson did say that the aide has not been on the bus since the incident.
