HOLLYWOOD—It is that time of year people, the reality competition that has become a staple for so many people during the summer, “Big Brother” is back. The speculation for “Big Brother 28” has been rampant, more than previous seasons. We don’t see returnees much in the current era of BB, but for this upcoming season the speculation has been massive.
There has been talk about some returnees and some newbies, there has been talk about a potential season similar to what we got in BB27 with Rachel Reilly being the sole returning player in a sea of new players. Now the latest rumor is beyond crazy because there was chatter about BB bringing in players from other reality competition series. We saw that with “Survivor” legend Cirie Fields on BB25, which started strong and then suffered a whimper in the final weeks.
So, imagine my shock when the official cast was revealed on Tuesday, July 7, just a mere 2 days before the premiere episode on Thursday, July 9. Our new cast mates include Ashley Trail, 24, from Chicago, Illinois, who is a bartender and a fan of the series, but she wants to have a dominant alliance. Not a fan of that. Saying you want to be a villain not a good thing, and she seems like a chatter bug.
Barrett Pfeiffer, 27, from Austin, Texas who is a jumbotron engineer, who has applied to the series quite some time and has been watching since he was 8 and has been a live feeder. I can see Barrett and Ashley in a showmance. Why are the first two houseguests introduced wanting to be a villain? You don’t have to show you’re a villain; it will just happen.
So, saying that is going to work against you. You can’t hide your emotions Barrett, oh, that will not hold well for you. We have Chuk Anyanwu, 27, from Dallas, Texas who gives off the Southern Black cowboy, something we’ve never seen. He seems like a recruit with vague knowledge about the game. Newsflash Chuk, female alliances have never dominated in this game, a bro-alliance has. It’s obvious BB asked the contestants if they viewed themselves as heroes or villains.
We have Drew Campbell, 22, from California who is a surgical dentist assistant. Two people who have been watching since they’ve been 8? He is giving Jace from BB17. Ugh, I’m worried it feels like a bunch of dummies this season on BB28. There is Haley Thogmartin, 29, from Missouri, who works as a telemedicine. She seems like a calm presence, compared to the first 3 players. Haley is not an OG fan, but a recent fan. I like her, Haley might be a sniper in the dark. Literally 5 players, none who can hide their emotions with their face? Not good.
There is Jason De Puy, 35, who is aka alum from RuPaul’s Drag Race Salina EsTitties. Yes, this might be a character who could shake up the game in a way that people don’t imagine. That is 1 reality star that Julie Chen has teased, so I want to know who else is on this cast. Jason feels like he is going to be a fun character, who is a fan of BB24 winner Taylor Hale.
There is Kamu Kirk, 32, an MMA figther, which means he is going to be a competitive threat, and he was introduced to the series during BB14, and is a fan of iconic player Dan Gheesling. Calm presence, not over-the-top when chatting, he might be a dark horse player this season. He doesn’t plan to reveal he’s a UFC competitor.
We have LaTrice Verrett, 57, from New Jersey and works in retail sales. So is she going to be our oldest contestant of the season. Wow, La Trice has been watching since BB2, oh, she is an OG people and she has some good energy. She noted she has a background in entertainment and is a mother of 4.
We have Lyric Medeiros, 25, who happens to be an attorney, but she seems very quiet; not the biggest voice, but she’s from Hawaii. Not getting a ton from her, will have to wait and see until how she appears or acts in the diary room. LaTrice and Lyric are both coming from families of singers. They might bond over that, but I can see LaTrice being a memorable contestant in the Diary Room.
Mallory Aurichio, 24, from Washington and she’s a rocket scientist. Ok, do we literally have a ton of super fans this season. She seems quirky, but annoying at the same time. She reminds me of Kelley from BB27, and we know how that ended; it was not great for BB fans.
There is the game contestant host Melody Morris, 24, from Phoenix, Arizona. Her cadence is quite dry, she’s been watching BB for a longtime, but hasn’t specifically noted how long. Hmm, recruit maybe? I love that she is not interested in a showmance, but I feel like she might be one who falls into that trope.

There is another athletic in Rome Seymour, 28, from Traverse City, Michigan who is a pickleball coach. He noted he wants to come across as an alpha male, but a nerd who wants to protect the smart people in the house. This cast feels stacked with athletic competitors, but he seems like someone that will go into conflict no matter what and will not back down. He totally seems like a douche, but he might be a fun douche. He gives off a villain, one that is going to be fun to watch.
There is Taylor Brown, 24, the elementary school counselor who has been watching since a little girl. Yeah, this is a season of fans in some sort of fashion. She is a fashionista, but she has strategy. Rather that works or not, I’m not sure, but she needs to know how to handle conflict, which seems a lot of people on this cast is going to struggle with. The final houseguest revealed to us is Yash Patel, 24, from New Jersey who is a financial analyst. Yash gives ‘Bro’ energy. Yash feels like he is going to annoy the hell out of BB fans and he’s all about a showmance. He could be first boot potential.
We got a total of 14 contestants, so we already know there is more coming, as we typically have 16 houseguests every season since BB15. We probably won’t learn about them until during the premiere on Thursday or Friday after the live feeds actually kick off.
Once again “Big Brother” has cast a bunch of players in their 20s. For once, can we get a season where we have people in the 30s, 40s, a bit more. We got a total of 14 houseguests, so there has to be at least 2 more players maybe 4 at most. Tune in Thursday at 8 p.m. on CBS as the summer guilty pleasure arrives with “Big Brother 28.”
