SAN FRANCISCO—An AR-15 rifle that was stolen in an auto burglary from the San Francisco Police Department was found on Monday, March 4.  The weapon was discovered on the 1300 block of 88th Avenue in Oakland.

The weapon was stolen when an unmarked SFPD police car was broken into.  The officers had secured the vehicle while they were working in the area, when suspects broke into the vehicle and stole the rifle.

The Oakland Police Department who were investigating the incident identified the location and began surveillance, as indicated in a press release from the SFPD website. Authorities served a search warrant at the residence and the weapon was found. Several people were detained and the investigation is still ongoing, but no suspects are in police custody.

The San Francisco Police Department would like to thank the Oakland Police Department for their outstanding work in the recovery of our patrol rifle.
